The Hollister sits on a sloping wooded lot that most builders would have flattened. We worked with the grade instead: a brick foundation stepping down to a curved retaining wall, and board-and-batten siding in a soft green that settles into the pines rather than announcing itself. The house belongs to the lot instead of sitting on top of it.
